Less than 36 hours until departure

And I am still not really ready.  Wednesday was my last day of work(huzzah!) and I’ve had a ton of time to prepare, but, surprise, while I’ve started packing, nothing’s actually in suitcases or bags yet, just sorted into piles in the living room.  Still a day for that I guess.  But, any day that gives me another opportunity to talk about barbecue is a productive day.  I met my dad in downtown KC after his work and got an open-faced pulled-pork sandwich at Arthur Bryant’s, an establishment which famously garnered this review from Playboy in 1974:

“It has long been acknowledged that the single best restaurant in the world is Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque at 18th and Brooklyn in Kansas City.”  [via Arthur Bryant’s website]

So there you have it.  This was somehow the first time I had ever eaten there, and it more than lived up to its reputation.  The sauce is really unique, spicy, and tasty, and the meat was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.  No surprise that Jimmy Carter, Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan, Stephen Spielberg, John McCain, and Sarah Palin have all stopped by.  If you’re in Kansas City, go to there.  Last time I plug KC barbecue for a while, I promise.

And then tonight, I went to my high school’s (Lee’s Summit North) homecoming football game, and was instantly reminded why, even though it was fun while it lasted, I would never want to go back to high school.  Still, nothing like watching LSN let a game slip away in the second half.  That brings back memories. Anyways, this is it for the Kansas City stories, for I am London-bound and hopefully will have more interesting/exciting things to report starting next week.
